San Jose remained a sleepy little town until sport fishing became an important industry in the 1960’s and 1970’s and the construction of the trans-peninsular highway and San Jose International airport made the the region more accessible.

Recent additions to Historic San Jose include a newly restored plaza with shops, restaurants, the town hall building, the old mission, the theater and the Casa de la Cultura.
